After seeing the BRS report about how well chaeto can do if given sufficient light I decided to try my hand at building a refugium light that can do serious PAR in a small refugium for under $100. I went with the cree G3 LEDs because they put out an absurd amount of light. I chose to go 3RB and 2 Warm white. Some go for the straight blue and red, but I find the warm whites still put out significant PAR while keeping the overall mix pleasing to the eye. I was able to whip this up in an hour or so this afternoon if you don't count the 2 hours i let the epoxy cure. I just metered it over a HOB refugium and I am seeing about 800 PAR 3" under water. This could probably do very well in most any refugium giving more than enough light to support massive chaeto growth.

Will do. I have nitrites and nitrates now as well as the beginnings of a diatom bloom, so the cycle is well under way. The chaeto, pod seed stock and CUC are scheduled to arrive next Friday.
