So my wife has agreed to allow me to submit possible designs for a new system in my family room. It would be in place of my 125 freshwater tank.

After sketching up some ideas and thinking about it , I may going with a 205 gallon 72" x 30" x 22" or a 245 gallon 72" x 30" x 26. Lots of ideas bouncing around in my head. The filtration system will be contained within the stand. I have no place else for it. (I have faced reality and my dream of adding a fishroom onto the house is many years down the road).

Here are pictures of the space I have to work with:

I think I would like a shelf/bar coming off the stand so that someone could sit at the tank and have room for a plate or drink on the shelf.

I am not very proficient in google sketch or any modeling software but I may give that a try.

Please let me know if any of you have any ideas/ suggestions! I will be looking for expert advice!

Here is a sketch up of my new thought. I downloaded someone's bar model and changed it a bit, not necessarily the stand design, but I do like it. The tank would be an open on top (with a screen) with AI SOL LED's hanging over it.

The tank will need to more or less stay in that corner. Here is a rough idea of the room layout.

wOOt! Good for you! I love the idea of having a shelf. If I ever have a stand custom made, that's what I want to do, too.

Nice Nathan! Can't wait to see this thing get going. I'm sure it will be a fantastic tank. Good luck!

    Congrats, Nathan! :D

This will be a reef tank, correct? I would go with the 205. I like the shallower deep dimension tank myself. They make for better aquascapes.

You should go with the AI Vegas. :)

How tall is the cabinet/bar height?

Thanks all, looking forward to it. It will be some time before things really get rolling. It won't be until until the fall at the earliest.

    Mixed reef for sure.

They do have an upgrade path for AI Sol's to AI Vegas costing between $250 and $300 each. Since I will be working with 4AI Sol blues to start its going to be a while before I upgrade (if I upgrade, I really like the Sol Blues)

Nathan, Marc at Melevsreef made a removable shelf he could stand on, his stand was steel and the shelf fit together like a receiver hitch. The bar idea is great and it doubles as a walking platform for maintenance. (The removable part is a good selling point for your wife.)

Yes I recall seeing that on Marc's build and I loved that idea. I have plenty of planning and design work ahead of me.

My current working plans, nothing finalized.

72""x30""x22"" AGE with stainless steel bracing, non-starfire

72"x30"x36" Steel Stand from AGE (to be skinned with wood at a future date)

PVC bottom with sides in the stand for the sump and equipment to sit on (so like a tray that would be water tight and catch small leaks or water spills)

    60x24x16 Acrylic Sump/Refugium

    SRO 3000 Skimmer

    Tunze 6105
    Tunze 6005
    MP 10
Perhaps 1 more, think its needed?

    Neptune Apex Controller
    Neptune VDM Module

    4 x AI Sol Super Blue LED's

Eheim 1262 - 900 gallon per hour. Do you think I will need a stronger pump? I plan to run my carbon, gfo and biopellet reactors off of this to.

Thanks Dan! Good to know I have expert consultation and a plethora of tools at my disposal so close to home! :) I plan on ordering the tank and stand this week. It will be 4-6 weeks before they arrive.

Do you have a basement under that area of the house? If I had a do over I would definitely plumb my sump below so I could automate water changes, top-offs...
