I recently purchased spear true union check valve for my 90 gallon reef tank. I tested the valve before installing and it seemed to check the water flow however when I installed the valve above the return pump I am not getting enough back pressure to close the valve. I do. Or have a lot of head pressure and the pvc is 3/4". It seems to close about 75% and stops. The valve is brand new and does not seem to stick.

    Few questions for the forum.
Do these check valves have break in period?
I have heard you can drill small holes in return nozzle in display. If so, what place in the return nozzle do I drill? See attached picture reference on my return.

At this point I think the modification to return nozzle is best solution because adding check valve was nightmare. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe your hole needs to be just about at water level. Too high and it will squirt, too low and it will siphon.
